John MacMenamin, a retired Supreme Court judge, is the current Chair of the Irish Financial Services Appeal Tribunal, which hears appeals from the Central Bank of Ireland, the supervisory body for Ireland’s financial services sector. He was the Chair of the IFSAT panel that determined the AB case, consequent on which the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland commissioned an independent review of its fitness and probity (F&P) approval function and processes.
Judge MacMenamin led a lengthy investigation into child sexual abuse by deceased members the Society of Jesus (that is, the Jesuits). Judge MacMenamin also led a disciplinary procedure in a leading university.
He is a member of the Governing Authority of University College Dublin. He has lectured or spoken at universities as far apart as Hyderabad, St Louis, Utrecht, and Madrid.
In his spare time, he is writing a book on the Parnell Commission (1889), a sensational legal inquiry into accusations against Charles Stewart Parnell, the Irish nineteenth century nationalist leader, that were based on forged letters published by the London Times. Charles Stuart Parnell was vindicated.
